| Let's Let’s play Dora’s
version of the popular basketball game H.O.R.S.E. Each time
your child makes a basket, she gets a piece of an animal puzzle.
Complete the puzzle and say the animal’s name in English
and Spanish.

 |
 |
| 1. Print your Dora animal puzzles (see
the "What You Need" side bar to the right). Cut
the puzzle pieces apart and keep them handy as you begin the
game.
2. Set up your court. You can purchase a children’s
basketball hoop, or make your own by securing a laundry basket,
bucket, or cardboard box to a table. If you're using a homemade
hoop, a small, lightweight ball will work best. For the younger
kids, try holding a hula-hoop in the air.
3. Start the game! Have your child shoot the ball from different
distances around the court. Younger kids may only be able
to shoot from up close. For each basket made, reveal a new
piece of the puzzle. When they score enough to complete the
puzzle, say the animal’s name in English and in Spanish
together.
4. If there’s more than one player, have the kids take
turns shooting the ball to get puzzle pieces. Then say it
two ways with each child. Even if one child sinks all the
baskets, that’s okay. In the end, they get to figure
out the puzzle (and learn) together.
