Home : Make & Do : Tortilla Chips with Cheese

If your kids love crisps then try this homemade, healthier version. It's simple, easy to clean up, and delicious.

Makes 5 to 6 servings

1. Print the recipe so your child can follow along.

2. Preheat the oven to 190°C. Have ready one or two baking trays.

3. Make six piles of two tortillas each. Use kitchen scissors to cut each pile of tortillas into wedges or other shapes. Children love doing this. Just be sure they don't cut the tortillas too small.

4. Spread the tortilla pieces on the tray in a single layer. They can touch, but should not overlap.

5. Lightly spray the spread-out tortilla pieces with non-stick cooking spray. Let the children sprinkle the tortilla pieces with salt.

6. Bake the tortillas for 10 to 12 minutes, or until crisp. Let them cool on the tray(s) for about 5 minutes.

7. Turn oven down to 170°C.

8. Grate the cheese and allow the children to sprinkle it over the tortilla chips

9. Put the tray(s) in the oven and let your child set the timer for 3 minutes.

10. Remove the tray from the oven, and put the chips on a plate with a spatula. Allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before eating.
